Status of the website relaunch in October - reminder of new conventions in the CMS

In September and October, larger areas were restructured and went online with a new design. The Faculty of Business Administration and Economics with a German and English presence, the pages of the Viadrina Center B/ORDERS IN MOTION, the Institute for Conflict Management, the Equal Opportunity Department and the main menu item Research are now live.

The Karl Dedecius Foundation and a new online presence for ERUA are also about to go live. The next major "construction projects" are already underway: the main menu item Internationality, the websites of the IKMZ and the University Library are currently being designed and populated.

Important goals of the web relaunch are not only the implementation of a new design and a new structure, but also a rethought target group orientation and accessibility. Our content should be easy to find, load smoothly and be up-to-date. The web relaunch team therefore asks all CMS editors to delete outdated content. The CMS should not be used as a file repository. This makes the system slow, the pages unattractive for search engines and may make it more difficult for colleagues to maintain the content later. You can use the server drives or your Viadrina cloud to store and exchange documents.

A comprehensible language without abbreviations and the barrier-free naming of files are also part of the maintenance of the new websites. All users of the CMS are responsible for maintaining the new, tidy pages.

Valuable tips can be found on the training pages, such as the checklist for building and going live with new pages, for digital accessibility and for saving files such as photos and PDFs.

Short info on photos:

  • File format: jpg
  • Dimensions: according to specifications, no larger than 2 MB
  • File name: descriptive, without special characters, no underscores; only lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens are permitted
  • File title: barrier-free, i.e. term or terms that describe the image or the name of the person shown

Note/support: Please refrain from using advertising images or stock photos. If you have an image idea for your website, please contact Heide Fest (fest@europa-uni.de). If you need help with cropping and filing photos, please write to webrelaunch@europa-uni.de.

Short facts about PDFs:

PDFs are considered "remote" because they are rarely accessible. Remember: most users surf our pages via smartphone. If the content is hidden in the PDF, it is also less likely to be found and accessed. If you cannot do without a PDF, please store it correctly. It should be no more than 5 MB in size, have a simple, short file name and a meaningful title. The SEO description should also include a brief outline of the content.
