Concept

Basic assumptions

The new website uses the following two main types of web pages:

  • Navigation pages
  • Detail pages

The navigation pages - start and distribution pages - provide access to the most important topics via the content navigation. For the start pages, this corresponds to the main menu items. The distribution pages each refer to the subtopics of a respective main menu item.

The navigation pages are primarily used to provide users with a thematic overview. If they are interested, they click on elements of the content navigation, e.g. on a teaser tile, and navigate to deeper levels. Here, users are either taken to another navigation page (distribution page) or directly to the detail page.

The detail pages - e.g. standard websites - are usually used at the end of a click path and offer detailed information on a topic. A feature of the detail page is the so-called info column, which takes up the right-hand side of the page.
In the info column, further elements that support the content - info boxes - are placed: Addresses, downloads, links, events, brochures, etc.

Template is a predefined template for creating websites. It defines the website type.

Modules are building blocks from which the modular website types are built. Modular templates contain the word modular in their name.

Element is the smallest building unit that modules consist of, e.g. a single tile in the Tiles module, an image, a video element, etc.

Each of the layers listed above - template, module or element - can have its own settings (fields in the properties area on the right-hand side of the CMS). Sometimes the settings for several layers are named the same, e.g. the same setting for the module and for its elements. To understand how such settings differ from each other, you need to read them in the context of the level.

Examples:

  • The setting / field "Link to target page" applies to both the module: Teaser tiles as well as for its element: Teaser tile. In the context of the element, it is a web page to which the user is redirected after clicking on the individual tile. In the context of the module, this setting links to an overview page that appears after clicking the button at the bottom right of the module (e.g. the "Show all news" button in the "News" module would take you to the overview page with all news items, whereas a tile would take you directly to one of the news items).
  • The "Show in navigation" field applies to both the one-pager website template (modular) and its modules. For the template, the setting means whether the website should be linked in the navigation (main or footer navigation). For the modules, this setting determines which of the modules of a one-pager should appear in its moving page navigation as clickable sections that can be navigated to directly within the one-pager website.

  • The aim of the page design should be to optimally guide users and encourage them to read (further).
  • The pages should be appealing and not overwhelm the reader
  • .
  • Large amounts of text can be hidden in accordions and still be easy to find.
  • The tab module is suitable for describing processes.
  • Modules such as the tab module, the logo slider, the image gallery or the accordion should generally only be used once on a page.
